Rehab Programs for Drug Addiction

Rehab Programs for Drug Addiction-3.jpg

The choice of drug rehab programs depends on the type of drug addiction and the severity of the patient's addiction. Before enrolling yourself or a loved one in a treatment program, be sure to consult a medical professional in order to determine if such a program is the right one for the patient.

In-patient

In this rehab program, the patient stays in a rehab center during the course of the treatment. The patient's daily activities and a daily plan for the program is created in order to facilitate a step-by-step recovery for the patient. Family members and friends may visit the patient during designated hours in order to show their support for the patient.

The benefit of being in an in-patient rehab program is that there are medical professionals who will monitor the patient's health and progress at all times. The withdrawal symptoms may also be better managed since there are experts who will be attending to the patient's needs.

Out-patient

In less severe drug and alcohol addictions, the doctor may approve of an out-patient program as the course of treatment for the patient. This is best for patients who are highly motivated that they can abstain from drug use for at least 72 hours. Those in out-patient programs should also have strong support groups (families and friends) who can guide and monitor them during the treatment.

People who are getting out-patient treatments are still required to present themselves at the treatment facility at a predetermined schedule in order to assess their progress and compliance with the program.

Partial stay and short stay

Partial stay programs are those that require the patient to report to the rehab center for about five hours five days a week. After the five-hour treatment, the patient may still do his or her regular activities.

A short stay program is a treatment program designed to have the patient stay at the center for a short time and the final steps of the treatment may be done as an outpatient program.

When choosing a treatment program, you should also consider the personality of the patient. If the patient lacks the determination to comply with the treatment, it is best to enroll him or her in an in-patient program. However, such treatments cost higher than the other options.
